With some time on your hand you can let your artistic side get to work. Usually that means creating the input for some Photoshop work when you get back home. In this case I used bracketing to shoot five photos of the same barn which I later merged using HDR software. [24mm, 1/4s-0.3s, F8]

We returned to the same barn during midday sunlight, which resulted in a completely different photo. This image was stitched together from six portrait-oriented photos. [24mm, 1/160s, F8]

The old barn lent itself for a nostalgic black & white development. [92mm, 1/60s, F14]

Some times there is not much color in the landscape as was the case in this instance. At that point it may be a good idea to opt for a classic black and white just like Ansel Adams did when he visited the park. [24mm, 1/50s, F5.6]

Another shot of that same river in a tranquil setting. [24mm, 1/60s, F9.5]

The next sequence of photos was a group of bison crossing the river at the same point as above two photos. Sometimes you are lucky to witness and capture this in Yellowstone.

This close-up was taken from the same point as the photo above. Best time of day is in the morning as the sun shines into the canyon. The sun brings out the yellow stone colors. [70mm, 1/160s, F8]
On the South Rim you can find Artist Point which can be considered one of the best view points. In this photo, which was taken around noon, you can see that the sun lights up the north side of the canyon. Better lighting can be had earlier in the day, but sometimes the travel plans do not match the lighting schedule. [24mm, 1/400s, F9.5]

This tree can be found at the same lookout as the top photo. In this photo the tree is used as a frame. The vibrant green moss enhances the framing. [24mm, 0.8s, F8]

The Tower Falls picture point can be reached after a short walk down a pathway. In this case, try to get some flow in the water by using a slow shutter speed. If there is too much sun on the falls, you may have to a ND filter to slow it down. [70mm, 1/15s, F16]
